     Berge Avadanian hailed from Watertown, Massachusetts, he was born on June 14, 1918 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He registered for the draft from Perth Amboy, New Jersey. In 1940, when he registered, Berge was working for the Howard Johnsons' hotel chain in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He enlisted into the Army on January 26th 1942 from Manhattan, New York. Berge earned his Combat Infantryman Badge in Sicily, he also was a Purple Heart medal and Silver Star medal recipient. Berge rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant during the war. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946 after marching in the victory parade in Manhattan, New York.
